Demographics
23% of individuals who are aged 65 and over in zip codes 48210, 48217, 48216, and 48208 are living below the poverty level compared to Detroit (18.6%), Wayne County (11.3%), and Michigan (8.2%).
The percentage of the population who are aged 65 and older is lower in zip codes 48210, 48217, 48216, and 48208, combined (11.74%), when compared to Wayne County (12.10%) and Michigan (12.30%).
About 40% of deaths of older adults in Detroit (1990-2000) is due to not being able to quickly access affordable health care.
In Detroit, 80% of the population aged 65 and over is Black or African American, 16% is White, 3% is Hispanic or Latino, 1% is Other, and a small percentage (near 0%) is Asian or American Indian/Alaskan Native.
