our services

Eldercare

BCI provides bilingual professional psychosocial assessments for the elderly in Southwest Detroit and leverages the gifts and talents of volunteers from Southeastern Michigan to fulfill each identified unmet need.Comprehensive services range from professional case coordination by staff to volunteer services such as friendly visits to reduce isolation, supportive transportation to medical appointments, daily phone monitoring, holiday remembrances, food delivery, minor home repairs, lawn and snow maintenance, ramp building, neighborhood revitalization and special supportive services to grandparents raising grandchildren.

Intergenerational Programming

BCI is proud to engage youth of the Chadsey-Condon neighborhood, along with neighboring neighborhoods in Southwest Detroit, in its Intergenerational Program. By bridging the generational gaps youth are able to link elders in their neighborhood to services and resources to meet their needs.
The mission of the Intergenerational Program is to provide a safe environment where people can age in dignity, while local young people are exposed to possible job fields, career opportunities, and the transferable skills needed to build a positive future for themselves and their communities.  Most importantly, we help to create a sustainable community that thrives off of the energy and wisdom of all its members, young or old.

Time Banking Program: Unity in Our Community TimeBank

A timeBank is a community of people who support each other. When you spend an hour of your time to help an individual or a group from your TimeBank, you will earn one TimeBank hour. With that hour you can get an hour of help from another person.

The Unity in Our Community (UOC) TimeBank is for all people who live or work in the Chadsey-Condon, Corktown, Hubbard Farms, Springwell’s Village, and surrounding neighborhoods in Southwest Detroit who are looking to meet their neighbors and help strengthen the community.

Bridging Communities is the host of the Unity in Our Community TimeBank, and utilizes to connect seniors with resources in their community. BCI also uses the TimeBank to engage the youth who participate in the Intergenerational Program. BCI's summer youth employment program only accepts youth who actively participate with the TimeBank.

Mission:
Unity in Our Community is a TimeBank designed to nurture, inspire, and motivate a network of neighbors, local businesses, and organizations to come together to create a caring and sharing community.

We need each other:
People helping each other reweave communities of support, strength and trust. Community is built upon sinking roots, building trust, and creating networks that are built on mutual respect and commitment.
